Tables can be booked in advance here at The Waterside Meadery. Bookings accepted via telephone only as messages can get missed. Please call the restaurant directly on 01736 364424, generally best before 11am or after 5pm.

 

Reservations can be held until 7pm, after this, the bookings go onto a ‘waiting list’, and you will be sat at the first available opportunity. It is always advisable to book especially on the busy nights.

As of June 15th 2022, any bookings of 15 people or more will require a deposit of £5.00 a head. There are no exceptions to this.

  • Deposits are required for 10+ people
  • £5.00 per head required in advance
  • If the group (or part of) cancels 8 days or more in advance, then a full (or partial) refund can be given.
  • If the group (or part of) cancels 7 days or less before the booking, then no refund will be issued.
  • No deposit means that the booking will not be honoured.
  • £5 a head will be taken off the customers final bill on the night.

The History Behind Our Restaurant

our story

The Building first became a Meadery in the Easter of 1970. For a while before its evolution, it was a café and Bar.

 

Originally the building was clay sheds, and in excess of 100 years old. Four re-enforced walls, that allowed the arriving boats to unload their china clay into the top of the building.

 

In 1970, the Leiworthy family made the building into what you see today, after the success of the first Meadery at Newlyn, and very little has changed. The Meadery was originally only half the size it currently is and the menu consisted of Chicken in the Rough, Scampi and Fish Fries, with chips. Not even any desserts were offered.

 

As time and popularity went on, the menu grew to offer desserts, salads and eventually what you see today. The Cornish Mead remained the same!

The Meadery still remains in the same family, although it’s the 2nd generation leading it now.

 

We have 3 floors here at The Waterside Meadery. The main restaurant and Kitchen on the ground floor, the function room/restaurant and bar on the second, and on the third is our best kept secret, added 25 years ago, The Roof Terrace, that has indoor and outdoor seating that looks over the working harbour.

 

Although the restaurant has seen many developments and weathered some ferocious storms, there is little that has altered from the original idea. A medieval style of dining by candlelight, served by waitresses and eating with your fingers, whilst enjoying the locally brewed Cornish Mead.

One drink or a full night for the party, we have two bars to keep you afloat during your visit. We know that its never good looking at an empty glass.

That’s right, we are happy to welcome all ages to our restaurant on the dock. With high chairs available and colouring pads for the kids, you can continue to enjoy your meal while they are preoccupied.
